Lester Johnson founded Faith Enterprises in 1973 as a design and development company. We became involved in the semiconductor industry by developing a method of machining slots in quartz rods for diffusion boats. Our attention was soon drawn to the obvious lack of a reliable wafer transfer system. We began development of a mass wafer transfer system that would come to be known as the Rapitran 1. A concept evaluation system was first displayed at Semicon East '82. The design received an excellent response from the show and convinced the owners to continue development of the product. By 1983 the system was ready for release to the market and Faith Enterprises began receiving orders. We received a United States patent #4,611,966 on September 16, 1986. Since our first orders were received we have shipped over 1,500 units to satisfied customers worldwide. We take pride in the fact that our first customer Lucent Technologies, (then Western Electric) has purchased over 200 of our wafer transfer tools and are still buying from us today.
Today, Faith Enterprises is a growing company with a strong increase in gross sales every year since 1992. We are a partnership with three equal partners all participating in the operation of the company.
Experience:
For several years we have worked with wet process equipment companies to automate their products. We have used both SECS and parallel I/O interfaces for communications with the host computer. Fortunately, the basic design of the Rapitran is already well suited to an automated environment so special requirements are very easily adaptable. Our design staff can produce customized systems quickly and efficiently and we are always ready to upgrade existing designs to meet the customers growing requirements. One unique advantage our systems possess is the availability of built in flat or notch aligning. When needed, this can be a very attractive feature in automated environments. We have also worked with Asyst and Infab to interface our systems with their Smif robots. We can use different materials to make our system blend in with the rest of the tool to provide an aesthetically pleasing, professional appearance.
Support:
Because of the simplicity of our systems there is very little support needed. Many of our customers report long periods of operation without any service required. Sematech evaluated one of our 200mm units for a period of eight months with no downtime. However, when support is required we are very conscious of how important timely, efficient support can be.
